The teaching method not only creates a new model for learning violin, but also breaks the traditional method for learning violin from Europe. Therefore, the aims of this study were to investigate the essence and the characteristics of teaching materials and teaching method in Suzuki violin method through the interviews, survey questionnaires and participant observations. Moreover, the administration of concepts and teaching method of Suzuki method in Suzuki Music Education System in Taiwan were also examined. This research was conducted with the case study method and the research data from participant observations, interviews and literature reviews were collected and analyzed. The study subjects, including two parents, students, teachers, training teachers and professionals, participated in or familiar with the Suzuki violin method were chosen to perform the interview, participant observations, and documents analysis. Results of this study showed that the ideals and goals of Suzuki violin method were carried out well with Suzuki Music Education System in Taiwan. Regarding teaching materials, most study subjects, such as Suzuki parents and students, showed that they gained great achievement during learning process because that the music was joyful. Moreover, the observation result from the author participated personally in the Taiwan Suzuki Association showed that constant listening to music performed with beautiful tone provides children with a role model for their playing. Besides, most of the study subjects highly recommended some ideas emphasized in the Suzuki violin method i.e., passive listening, constant repetition, delayed reading, encouragement, and tonalization training, etc., are good for learning violin for kids. Some of the group activities offered by Taiwan Suzuki Association for example, group activities and several concerts, not only make kids have more and more changes to practice and play the music, but also promote and increase their accomplishments in learning music. Finally, the author concluded some suggestions and further recommendations for Taiwan Suzuki Association, teaching programs of art-culture in primary and junior high school and further researchers. It is hoped that the research can serve as a basis for further study in theoretical application of Suzuki violin and music education in Taiwan.
