It aims to study the curriculum planning of library instruction in elementary schools. The aspects of the research include the current situation and ideal curriculum planning. This research is mainly based on the questionnaires, assisting with some interviews, hopes to explore the main planner, main instructor, timing, average period, place, curriculum goals, curriculum content, strategy, and curriculum evaluation. The research furthermore analyzes the differences about attitudes toward the curriculum planning of library instruction. Conclusions can be drawn as follows: 1. Most of elementary schools in Taipei City have the curriculum planning of library instruction. The office of academic affairs is the main planner and homeroom teachers are the main instructors. Library instruction is mostly implemented in sessions of reading instruction about one to four periods every semester in the school library. The primary goal of library instruction is to cultivate the interests, habits and skills in reading. The content of the curriculum is to help students know the environment, use and service of the library and often cooperates to promote reading. Observing the behavior of students is the common way to evaluate the effectiveness of the library instruction. Some problems include, lack of teaching time and teaching materials. But teachers will ask for help by consulting school administration and librarians. 2. As to the ideal curriculum planning of library instruction, librarians and teachers should plan cooperatively. Homeroom teachers or teacher-librarians should act as the main instructors. In the school library, library instruction should be implemented in sessions of reading instruction about one to eight periods every semester. The primary goal of library instruction is to educate students in the use of library resources and the primary content is to know the environment, use and service of school library. It is an effective way to implement library instruction in library sessions and evaluate by observing the behavior of students. 3. The research reveals that there are differences about the main instructors, average period and place of library instruction among teachers of elementary schools. Based on the results of this research, suggestions are made for ministry of education, elementary schools and the school staff.
