碩士 === 臺北市立教育大學 === 社會科教育學系碩士班 === 96 === From the angle of the relationship between Szu-nien Fu and the development of Taiwanese university, the main research purpose of this dissertation is to study how Szu-nien Fu discovered problems when NTU was within a complicated situation, how he proposed solutions for it and ended up to lead NTU as an ideal university during his term as a president of NTU. Szu-nien Fu had been well versed in Chinese classic books since his childhood. The way how his family dealt with affairs had a great influence on him. When Szu-nien Fu was in his senior and university, he began to come in contact with occidental education. Participating in The May Fourth Movement inspired his sense of patriotism, and then he devoted himself to the field of education and academia. Szu-nien Fu broadened his horizons and acquired knowledge of Western natural and social science when studied in Britain and Germany. As a result, his thoughts on academia became mature. Szu-nien Fu’s establishment of the Institute of History and Philology of Academia Sonica had a great contribution to the development of Chinese academia. As a substitute president of Peking University, he replaced fake teaching and administrative staff with excellent ones, and expanded Peking University to become an all-round university. The experience in Mainland China had a great impact on Szu-nien Fu’s management of National Taiwan University in the process of establishing the system of education. Szu-nien Fu’s educational idea in the aspect of students was student-centered. It was to create superior learning environment and conditions for students. In the aspect of teaching, it was to hire excellent teachers to instruct students’ academic research. In the aspect of administration, it was to establish discipline, to select delegates for school affairs, to enlarge the facilities of library and to set up examination system. He insisted on school autonomy and academic freedom. Szu-nien Fu took care of every single thing personally. His simple and sober character and his adherence to selflessness were all had a great impact on the staff and students of NTU. It could be found from this study that as an education leader Szu-nien Fu took students, parents and school development for consideration when he made an overall plan for school affairs. He insisted on his ego ideal and was well considered in every respect of a matter, all of these were worthy to be learned by the other education leaders.
