It mainly lead to children itching and decrease sleep quality of these children. It also affects sleep quality and quality of life of their mothers, that may reduce their ability of caring for their children. Furthermore, as the severity of AD increases, the impact increases. However, none of the study has been focused on the relationship between quality of life and sleep quality of mothers of AD children. Thus, the aim of this study is to exam the relationship between sleep quality and quality of life among mothers. The study is a cross-sectional descriptive correlational design. Convenient sampling was used to select 40 mothers of AD children and 40 mothers of healthy, age and gender matched children as control group. The severity of the disease was measured by Severity Scoring of Atopic Dermatitis Index (SCORAD). Furthermore, the sleep quality and quality of life were measured by Chinses version of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (CPSQI) and Short Form-36 (SF-36) respectively. SPSS 13.0 was used to analyze data for the descriptive and inferential statistics. Research results are the followings. First, the mothers with AD exhibits a poorer sleep quality、sleep latency、sleep duration、sleep efficiency, daytime dysfunction, and global sleep quality, compared to the mothers with healthy children. Second, the disease group of mothers also has a poor life quality in sub-scale levels and mental health components. Third, the global sleep quality explains 24.1% of effects on physical health components (PCS). The globe sleep quality and the disease severity of children can explain 43.4% of PCS. Moreover, the global sleep quality can explain 15.3% of mental health components in life quality (MCS).This score along with the disease severity can explain 32.2% of MCS. In conclusion, sleep quality can have effect on both mental and physical health of the mothers with AD children. In addition, these quality of life is affected by children’s disease severity. Thus, in order to improve these mothers’ life quality, relieve the symptoms of the children and promote sleep quality of mothers are necessary. 張碧真 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 113 zh-TW
