Customers can use multi-media (e.g. V2oIP, IPTV, etc.) service anytime anywhere. The wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN) has been developed to increase transmission performance and coverage range. WiMAX(Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) provides the last-mile internet access connection service and supports quality of service(QoS), bandwidth management in WMAN. Furthermore, The IEEE802.16e-2005 Std supports mobility requirement. It is very possible that WiMAX will become one of the most important technologies for WMAN. This research is divided into two parts. The first part covers WiMAX quality of service architecture and software platform design. We combine admission control, packet classifier, bandwidth allocation and packet scheduling to design the QoS simulation platform in WiMAX system. In the second part, based upon the WiMAX QoS simulation platform we evaluate the performance of V2oIP voice and video conference under the fixed and mobile WiMAX environment. It is noted that variable modulation rate affects transmission performance significantly and often causes substantial degradation of transmission performance in the mobile WiMAX environment. This research wrok uses adaptive codec and bandwidth requirement adjustment mechanism to decrease connection blocking probability and packet dropping probability.
