Summary: | 碩士 === 東海大學 === 工業工程與經營資訊學系 === 96 === LCD panel industry is Taiwan’s “Two Million Twin Star Industry,” having a significant influence in the economy of the country. At the present time, the TFT-LCD supply chain around the globe is distributed mainly in Korea, Japan and Taiwan. As compared to Japan and Korea manufacturers, Taiwan is an OEM, belonging to the lower added-value zone. At the same time, since the panel is a product conforming to a standard, the cost becomes the most crucial success factor. Increase in production efficiency is becoming a matter of urgency of Taiwan’s manufacturers. Therefore, the country needs to reduce the cost by investing in essential factors which are efficient and by using more suitable economic scale and manufacturing process technology in its R&D.
This study mainly relies on Data Envelopment Analysis to probe into the production efficiency of Taiwan’s panel industry. But since the production efficiency is composed of pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency, so we discuss this firstly. In order to further identify the strength in production changes of panel manufacturers over a period in recent years, we used the Malmquist Productivity Index. In carrying out R&D, an exceptional researcher is also indispensable, so we investigated the influence of innovation capital and human capital and other intangible factors toward production efficiency. The results of the actual evidences revealed the following below:
1. The TFT-LCD panel industry is still expanding, the difference in scale among the manufacturers is becoming bigger and bigger.
2. Through the estimation of the Data Envelopment Analysis, we’ve found out that the whole manufacturing technical efficiency still got room for improvement and is attainable by means of increasing the pure technology efficiency and scale efficiency. As a whole, the production efficiency of manufacturers producing big size panels is better than that of small size panels.
3. Through the Slack Variables Analysis, we’ve found out that the manufacturers’ wasteful use of physical labor is most serious.
4. Through the Malmquist Productivity Index, we’ve become aware of the signs of progression in the production strength of the whole industry. The reason for this is mainly due to the improvement in technology, but the technical efficiency change, pure technical efficiency change and scale efficiency change show signs of decrease.
5. The result of the Tobit Regression Model reveals that the average salary of employee presents noticeable negative correlation to technical efficiency; the average revenue of employee presents noticeable negative correlation to technical efficiency; the specific weight of high educational attainment presents noticeable positive correlation to technical efficiency; at present there exists within the industry a sign of capital waste.
