Cinnamomum osmophloeum Kaneh. is an endemic tree in Taiwan. Its leaves contain a lot of cinnamaldehyde. The antimicrobial and antioxidative activities of the different solvents extracted from leaves, branches and barks of C. osmophloeum were investigated in this study. C. osmophloeum leaves, branches and barks were dried and powdered (20 mesh). The powder was extracted with ten times of ethyl alcohol. The extract was then partitioned by n-Hexane, ethyl acetate, n-butyl alcohol and water. The result showed that most extracts have antimicrobial activities except the water extracts from leaves. The n-Hexane extracts especially presented the best antimicrobial activity. Because of the C. osmophloeum has chemical polymorphism, the consequence of antimicrobial activities also different in leaves, branches and barks. The cinnamaldehyde contents were significant related to the antimicrobial activity from Pearson Correlation analysis. The Pearson's Correlation Coefficient was 0.874. Most extracts from leaves, branches and barks showed the best DPPH scavenging activity especially the C. osmophloeum barks. Water extracts present the best chelating activities. The C. osmophloeum barks also showed the highest reducing power. The DPPH scavenging activity and reducing power were significant correlated to the total phenolic compounds in Pearson Correlation analysis and the Pearson's Correlation Coefficients were 0.711 and 0.832 respectively. 韓建國 鄧正賢 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 81 zh-TW
