The system will assist guests and students to get along with the campus environment efficiently. Besides, the design for this project involves a dual system: (1) the embedded robot; (2) the management server. The embedded robot system itself consists of the following parts: the image capture, wireless transceiver, voice, steering gear control, obstacles detection and recognition, global positioning system receiver, and navigation to control the motions of the robots. The hardware of the designed system is based on the DMA-PXA270 development board. Besides, the motor control and sensing signal control system are included. The robot moving direction can be detected by the e-compass sensing module. In addition, the distance between the obstacle and this system measurement is done through some sensors, including a USB webcam, two ultrasonic transceiver modules. In addition, the project will use geographical information software to hierarchically code campus buildings, driveways, pedestrian walkways, etc on different layers and to integrate such information with the Global Positioning System Coordinates to help build a well-integrated campus information network. Such a campus information system can then be combined with the campus wireless network and global positioning system receivers to control the aforementioned robots for the use of campus tour.
