The dangers facing NATO today are vastly different from those the alliance faced when it was formed. After experiencing the Kosovo Crisis and the War in Afghanistan, the transformation of NATO embraces various aspects of the organization including its mission, act area and the nature. During the Cold War, the NATO main mission is deterrence and defense. Now, its main mission is antiterrorism and crisis management. Regarding the act area of the alliance, it has been already out of the Europe area to take mission in Afghanistan. NATO today is vastly different from its in the Cold War, but the United States is still playing the leading role in its transformation. The United States regards NATO as a important strategic tool for the interest of U.S. hegemony, but we have a question whether U.S. can do anything in the transformation of NATO as he wish. In this essay, I will try to answer the question by using analytical appraisal of Neoclassical realism and Hegemony theory. 劉必榮 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 151 zh-TW |
