Some findings of the result match the existing literature, such as fear of pain, lack of sex knowledge and sex education, sex concept due to male superiority, conservative sex attitude, high-authoritative fathers, and female compliance in sex life. However, there are new findings: the similarity of vaginismus symptom and blood-infection-injury phobia; alienation of the patients’ relationship with their family of origin; the patients’ irrational anticipation of the vaginal intercourse.
As to their adjustment process, couple’s interaction pattern maintains symptoms, the patient’s sexual identity is formed during the adjustment process. Also, individual coping efforts are much higher than their partners’. Among the three coping strategies, emotion-focus coping strategies were applied least. Problem-solving coping strategies were diverse and modified following the adjustment process. All the patients experienced similar ineffective coping cycle with different time length.
