Description
Summary:碩士 === 靜宜大學 === 西班牙語文學系研究所 === 96 === Goya was born during the time period of the collapse of traditional Western Europe. His enduring life paid witness to events in history, and subsequently manifested into internal conflicts which were widely reflected in his works. His stages of works not only showed his most honest inner emotions and well crafted skills, but more importantly contributed vastly to the development of the arts. This thesis attempts to look at the relationship between the eastern religion of Buddhism and the western art of Goya. Aside from interpreting western art, the author also researches whether Buddhism theories of Lotus Sutra can explain the meaning of Goya’s works. If this is probable, which of Goya’s works are related Buddhist concepts? Apart from an introduction and a conclusion, this thesis holds four chapters. These include a research into the background of the era during Goya’s lifetime, his biography, the stages of his art, and his artworks. This thesis also investigates the historical background of Buddhism and the main principals of Lotus Sutra. Lastly, it attempts to prove that Goya’s works are related by these principals. The conclusion summarizes this thesis and provides answers to the hypothesis.
