Summary:碩士 === 中國文化大學 === 生活應用科學研究所碩士在職專班 === 96 === Correlative Research on Lifestyles and Health Conditions of Junior High School Students in Taipei City Abstract This study investigates the present status and differences in the lifestyles and health conditions of junior high school students in Taipei City with different background variables, explores the correlations between different lifestyles and health conditions, as well as examines the predictive validity of background variables and lifestyles on health conditions. A survey was conducted on 7th, 8th, and 9th graders studying at junior high schools in Taipei City in 2007. A total of 750 valid samples were selected by class with purposive sampling. Three research tools employed by the graduate school were the Personal Background Data Questionnaire, Lifestyle Scale and Health Condition Survey. Data collected were analyzed using the following statistical techniques: frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent samples T test, one-way ANOVA, Chi-square test, Pearson Product Moment correlation and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The main findings of this research are: 1. Among personal background variables,7th, 8th and 9th grades constitute a third each, each gender constitutes approximately one half, “two siblings” is the most, with most being eldest children in the family. 94% live with their mothers, and the fathers in most of the samples are middle to higher-level executives, and the mothers are housewives and middle-level executives. Nearly 40% of fathers have an education level of university or higher, and nearly 30% of mothers have an education level of university or higher. Nearly half of the samples have no religious beliefs. One third of the families have a total family income of NT$70,000 or more, and 70% of students have a harmonious family relationship. 2. Among lifestyle variables,This study discovers that the lifestyle of junior high school students in Taipei City tends to be positive. Hygiene habits and hobbies are the best-performing categories in lifestyle, and the higher the education attainment of parents, the better the dietary habits of junior high school children; the amount and quality of sleep is less and lower than the general public, and 70% of students can nap during lunch time, which is very important for compensating for inadequate sleep; 62.8% of samples exercise regularly and pay attention to exercise safety; more than 50% of samples spend over 14 hours a week on computers, and one-quarter experience a chaotic life and poor parent-child relationships due to computer use; most prefer static to dynamic leisure activities, with fairly decent leisure length and quality. 3. Among health condition variables This study discovered that the body height and weight of the samples is above 50% of the national norm, the body mass index is within the normal range, and the overweight or obesity rate of females is lower than that of males; 59.5% have myopia, and the higher the grade, the worse the condition; cavity rates are relatively low when compared with studies in other counties and cities, although health perception is poorer by contrast. 4. The better the overall life style of junior high school students in Taipei City, the better their overall health, and they are taller, heavier, and have better physical consciousness and mental health. 5. Among personal background variables, the more harmonious the family relationship, female, and the higher seniority among brothers and sisters have predictive validity on health; in life style, sleep, exercise and dietary habits have predictive validity on the health condition of junior high school students.
