The structure of this play refers to Shakespeare's play Hamlet that is adapted Elizabethan times to the Malacca Dynasty and Hamlet to Prince Ibrahim. The different cultural perspective is represented in this play through the same plots and different dramatic elements displayed, as well as the new elements and roles added. The thesis is attempted to interpret the intention and the conception of the adaptation through the theoretical framework of Aristotle’s Poetics. First, based on the analysis of the origin and the consideration of the possible problems that may be faced in the adaptation, a method for what and how to adapt is developed. Through the adaptation and selection from the origin, the addition and reduction of characters and actions along the main storyline of the revenge stirred by the lust of power, the conflict between the individual will, monarchical power and God’s will, and the entanglement of race and hierarchy is highlighted to reflect the complicated and paradoxical human nature. Hopefully, this play will become a practical theatre performance and upgrade the quality of the drama creation. Wang Shih-I 王士儀 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 140 zh-TW |
