The preliminary study aimed at knowing the Play Theme for children exposed to physical abuse, describing change process of play themes in the play.
Two children were observed and treated in the twenty sections of the therapy by the counselor, based on the content analysis method. The process of the play therapy was video-recorded and translated verbatim. All the transcripts were analyzed using the method of content analysis by the researcher and the other peer researcher of this study. The findings are as follows:
1. The play themes in physical abused children’s play including:exploration, relationships, mastery, control, aggression, self-injury, nurturance. A boy’s play theme changing process was relationships, mastery, control, and mastery vs control, and in the process, A boy represent the improvement of self- ability and self- efficiency. B boy’s play theme changing process was explore at the beginning and establish the relation with the therapist, nurturance, establishing trusting relationship by therapist slowly, and last circulation deep play theme alternative to appear.
2. Play theme changing process of physical abused children are same at first there will be exploration and relationship, and will appear circulation way.The difference is for later stage same play theme intension and relatively previous looks different place, the intensity of the game is relatively weak.
3. Two physical abused children’s play theme have different circulation way.
4. Relationship with therapist and accept play therapy or not might have influenced the theme of the game.
