Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄大學 === 高階經營管理碩士在職專班(EMBA) === 96 === The purpose of this thesis is to study the feasibility of establishing Kinmen as a free trade zone from the perspective of resource-based theory. All the gathering of data concerning both the theories and practicability of a free trade zone and their classification and analysis will be processed according to the resource-based theory, core resource and core competence, and competitive advantage viewpoints. Historical literature testifies that as early as the beginning of the 17th century, Kinmen was prosperous in marine free trade and had some trading experience with foreign countries. However, instead of moving along that direction Kinmen was turned into a battle field due to some political factors. It was especially so after the retreat of the nationalist government from China to Taiwan in 1949. For the next 43 years, Kinmen has gone through five battles between the communist and nationalist governments, resulting in heavy damage and casualty. The martial law imposed during that period, which banned the communication and trading between people on both sides of the Strait, was not lifted until 1992 when Kinmen was opened up for tourism. Immediately after the lifting of the martial law, the future of Kinmen and its economic development have become issues to both the local government and civilians. Issues such as building Kinmen into a free trade zone or a economy-trade special district for traveling and trade, like that of Hong Kong, have been raised and desired. Then, upon the political power switch in 2000, the opening up of the three mini direct links has restarted the navigational passage between Kinmen and Xiamen, which had been blocked for over 50 years. The passage suddenly takes up the position of the gateway between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, and the prosperous view of a crowded harbor came into view again. This new policy has actually contributed to the better relationship between the two sides, enhanced Kinmen’s economic development , and attracted the attention of a great many scholars. Most of the results of the studies have pointed to the necessity of expanding the three mini direct links and the establishment of a economy-trade special district or a free trade zone to empower the economic development of Kinmen. Nevertheless, few of these studies have dealt with Kinmen’s fundamental conditions to be qualified for such a task. In view of this, based on the resource-based theory, this research aims to evaluate and analyze the resources and social-economical capability of Kinmen in terms of its core resource and competitive advantage. It is found during the process of researching that the function of Kinmen as a midway economic zone for traveling and trade will be greatly impacted once the three major direct links should be put into practice. Therefore, it is of most urgent to promote Kinmen’s core resource and core competence, and make any necessary reforms to meet the future changes.
