Temple painting is one of the unique special decorations because it describes the human history as well as the traditional culture. When the building style of temple evoluted during modernization , the way of the temple decoration was also affected. The temple painting is thus changed to cohere with modernization phenomena. Consequently, it has to face to the problems when the tradition ways move forward to the modern.
Modernization influenced not only the method of the traditional construction of temples, but also affects the original technique and materials of temple painting. Although the productivity of the traditional decoration was raised, its level is far behind the tradition one. The cost of temple painting became the first consideration for most of the proprietors. It limited the development of the temple painting and the technique in actual market. Although the contents of traditional painting were remained, but the quality was obviously inferior than before. This reflects also the complication and the contradiction between tradition and modern.
This study tries to discuss the factors of the evolution of temple paints during modernization by analyzing the painting method of different craftsmen. This study also tries to analysis how the modernization effects the temple painting in following three ways, they are the means of the painting method, the succession of the painting and the consideration of the erection practice.
