This is a film about ' CHANGE'. The term 'CHANGE' not only refers to the characters’ state of mind, but also the self-conversion from writing the script to finish the film.
Love and death could be an open-ending topic. But when it actually happens to somebody, it would be another story. To be clear, the idea of 'Birth at a funeral' came from the truly story of my life. I was frustrated by the unbearable pain and bitterness. I really want to know “what love is” and “what had I lost”.
Thus, I choose the intruder of someone's intimate relationship to be the main subject of the whole story. By the way, I contrast her with another character, Chung-Thien, who had an unrecognized relationship. Since we are not usually aware of those people who have similar stories around us, I hope we could think deeply of what we really have and what we had lost through the issue of death. You may not really own the things that you already hold in hand, you may not lose those that you don’t see, neither.
Furthermore, I hope this film will remind me of the true meaning of lost, as well as leading the audience to treasure what they have, since people often tend to forget and evade the reality. Finally, I hope the composition of this film as well as the discussion about it could inspire and encourage those that are interested in making footage of the funeral. I know it's not easy, but you will go through if you did not quit.
