Summary: | 博士 === 國立臺東大學 === 兒童文學研究所 === 96 === Lolita, which was written by Vladimir Nabokov among 1940 to 1948, is indeed a famous story which is retold by the stepfather, Humbert. For the narrator is the father, and the daughter, Lolita, is almost unspoken, this study first focused on the representation of the young woman in the relationship of committing incest. Many readers and critiques have concerned about power, the real and unreal vindication, and the libido of human beings in this contentious novel. These analyses have been seen as the ways of meta-reading. That is, the meanings of “the novel” maybe absolute, the ones of “the text” would be polyphony.
The most importance of this study is that the desire is not related to the girls’ or women body in these novels. On the contrary, they are more related to the male voyeurism and misogyny. The uneasy is produced at the same time when men are facing their desire for the young women body. Thus the second part of this study is how the Lolita complex has expressed in the Japanese pornography and popular culture. Besides, through the culture making of “Lolita” and “Gothic Lolita”, the style has become a trend of youth subcultures and has subverted the image of masochism, the original one in Lolita. In conclusion, the “Lolita” style now means a fashion or a vogue, which could be another way of the meta-reading.
