Abstract
Chen, Cheng-chih is a writer of all areas, whose work includes a wide variety of subjects. In the field of children’s literature, he worked hard for decades and obtained glorious achievements. In the region of educating children on literature, he is a main advocate for advancing forwards on this topic. His works are full of great love for the many wonders of nature; his books on discussion of children’s literature overflow with a strict attitude for learning and a passion for knowledge.
This study is focused on Chen’s work of children’s literature production. There are seven chapters in it. Each chapter’s concepts are as follows:
Chapter one [Introduction]: It describes the motivation and aim of this study by reviewing past papers and illustrates the method and limitation of this study.
Chapter two [Chen, Cheng-chih and children’s literature]: It starts with introducing Chen’s life and how he starts writing stories, his relationship with children’s language education, and groups them and analyses all his works.
Chapter three [Chen’s fairy tale]: It evaluates and discusses the themes, topics and structures of his publications; most of his fairy tales are taking material from daily life. Also emphasizes on educational characteristics such as love, belonging, respect and mutual dependency. The structures are clean and clear.
Chapter four [Chen’s nursery rhymes]: It examines the different types, sentence structure and performing ways by categorizing the contents of Chen’s nursery rhyme. He shows lots of variety in his rhymes those are close to children’s daily life and interact with children’s hearts.
Chapter five [Chen’s children novel]: Most of Chen’s children’s novels are focusing on fiction after analyzing different categories. They also discuss the features about theme, topic and character.
Chapter six [Chen and his other works]: It arranges his children’s poetry, novels, essays and fables, then examines and criticizes them.
Chapter seven [Conclusion]: It summarizes the key points of previous chapters, indicates Chen’s personality and character as well as his achievements and contributions to children’s literature.
