He is a literature and history worker that he promotes native literature and mother language education without sparing his efforts. His works cover essay, children’s poems, children’s song and reportage. His outstanding performance has earned him a good reputation and called as “The Head of Literary Circle in Changhwa” and “ Literary Octopus”. He has demonstrated his flexible command of Taiwanese in his Taiwanese poems and children’s poems and song in which he glamorously bring the characteristics of the Taiwanese language to the full play. His in-depth reportage and lively descriptive travel book not only show his skillful rein of the language but also reveal his concern about the local literature and history. The research covers Kang Yuan’s children poems and songs such as “Ballad for Taiwanese Children”, “Taiwanese Children in 60s – Children’s Looks, Children’s Poems and Children’s Song”, “Song for Taiwanese Children” and Taiwanese poetic anthology like “PaGu Mount” and “No Break Chapter Collections of Watercolor Paintings”. After reorganization, induction, statistics and analyses, we tried to find out and outline the characteristics of Kang Yuan’s works. We also used interview method to verify the accuracy and reliability of materials to understand his creation course and tried to explore the position and value of his works in children’s literature. This article is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is “introduction” in which we gave a sketch of the background, motivation, purpose, methods and limitations of the research. Through the literature, we tried to review the situation Kang Yuan is in children’s literature and native education and his achievements. Through the interviews method and literature review method, the second chapter introduces Kang Yuan’s biography ad creation course and views of children literature. Based on the theory and what the researchers had learned, in the third chapter and the fourth chapter, we tried to explore the contents, forms and characteristics of Kang Yuan’s works from the viewpoints of type, subject matter, thematic connotation and language arts. In the fifth chapter “Conclusion”, we inducted and summarized the key points and results of above chapters to answer the questions presented in the research in positioning Kang Yuan’s contributions to the children’s literature and native language education.
