Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 體育教學碩士在職專班 === 97 === This paper aims to understand the current elementary school volleyball team coaches’ coaching expertise and further probe into the discrepancy in their coaching expertise varied by different backgrounds. Documentary analysis, questionnaire survey and interviews are the three key elements to complete this paper, which are used to collecting the ability factors of elementary school volleyball team coaches’ coaching expertise and compiling the information gained from an empirical questionnaire named “current elementary school volleyball team coaches’ coaching expertise”.
200 coaches who have been coaching from 2003 academic year to 2007 academic year in elementary school volleyball teams are chosen to be the population of this questionnaire survey. The effective questionnaires amounted to 174, which is equivalent to 87% return rate. The information gained is analyzed via SPSS for windows 12.0, traditional Chinese version and consequently generated the results represented in descriptive statistics, t-Test and one-way ANOVA. A sample of teams from 8 experiences coaches were interviewed, compared with the questionnaire survey results.
The results are outlined as below:
1. Most of the elementary school volleyball team coaches are male and the average age mostly ranges from 30 to 34, or 40 and above. The education level mainly lands on college level, and their major in college are mostly PE or PE related. They have on average 1 to 5 year of coaching experiences and are both responsible for teaching and administrative affairs at school. They all played in college teams; however, surprisingly enough, most of them neither have any certificate in coaching nor in refereeing. Besides, the female coaches generally have a better player background than males.
2. The evaluation result of the elementary school volleyball team coaches’ coaching expertise mainly lies in “basic volleyball techniques training and operation”, “basic knowledge of volleyball” and “operation ability of psychological training”.
3. Through interviewing experienced and successful coaches, we find out that they think the three most important coaching factors are respectively “basic volleyball techniques training and operation”, “operation ability of psychological training”, and “school
administration and team management”.
4. The expertise possessed by elementary volleyball school team coaches do not make a difference in age or education level, but do make a difference in their gender, major, experience, school responsibilities, certificate of coaching or refereeing or player background.
5. The interviews also make us realize that the coaching certificate or superb volleyball techniques is not a guarantee of running a team well. On the contrary, the constant learning attitude toward communication skills with children and how to maintain their high interests in engaging in volleyball is a much better approach to win their hearts.
