During the times of 1950s、when contemporary arts were surging in Taiwan、Liao was still able to stride with stable pave、and came out wide a rather wide and broad path of creativity with his own features. Starting from 1955、his works have gradually integrated indigenous and exotic sentiments and atmosphere、and such unique style of painting has profoundly attracted researchers. The purpose of this paper is to render an overview of the life background of Liao Chi Chun as well as his interaction with the times so as to appreciate the factors that formulate his painting belief from 1955-1976. Also、the paper will put in much effort to explore the demonstration of his painting style from 1955-1976、and attempt to infer the artistic endowment and value of his artworks. This study will resort to historical research and sociological research of arts to conduct the elaboration on the life and background of Liao Chi Chun as well as induce his theory of painting. Then、perspective of gestalt artistic psychology、Chinese and western aesthetics、and phenomenology of Merleau-Ponty is employed to analyze the expression and endowment to the form of his works. This paper will、first、explain the research motif of the author、elaborate the life and process of learning of Liao Chi Chun、and further investigate the factors that formulate ion his painting belief from the three aspects as impact from Umehara Ryuzaburo、shaping of the times and environment、and extraction of elements from Chinese and western painting. Afterward、the paper will analyze the elements of form as composition contour、color、and shape of his works so as to appreciate is development process and features of express. From the composition of his work space、we have discovered the unique demonstration of his body、sentiment、and space、and should further explore how his works display the network of sentiments and space perception、and how space consciousness that integrates space and times can be highlighted. As such、the type and features of space expression can be concluded. At the end、the artistic endowment and value of art works by Liao Chi Chun will be elaborated in details.
