Based on the researcher’s teaching experience, it is common that students experienced writer’s block during their writing process. To facilitate the writing process, the study experimented with the analogical strategy on 6th graders. The study recorded the writing process of the students from the screen of the computers and inferred writing performance on superficial similarity and structural similarity from the comparison of the interviews and also collected data to better understand student’s writing process. The study coded the writing of the students by content analysis method with analysis of chi-square test to show the results of the study. The results showed that the high performers of the 6th graders utilized high structural similarity rather than superficial similarity whether on multiple choice questions or free response questions. The low performers of the 6th graders utilized superficial similarity on multiple choice questions. But on free response questions, they utilized writing techniques beyond superficial similarity. This change also adjusted the inconsistency of structural similarity that happened when students answered multiple choice questions. The results showed that there are significant correlations between “paragraphing and pausing” and “rhythm,” “creative imagination” and “concrete language,” and “association” and “metaphor.”For the different performance groups, there are significant differences on “paragraphing and pausing” and “creative imagination.”The study provided suggestions for further research for the cause why low performers utilized writing techniques beyond superficial similarity and for the reason that is behind the correlation and significant differences. The suggested dimensions are more worth discussing than just the description of the phenomena. Chien Cheng-Chih 錢正之 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 145 zh-TW
