Abstract
This study was to explore the relationships between work values and professional growth of elementary school teachers in Taipei and analyzed the differences in work values and professional growth of different individual background variables and different school environment variables , as well as the predictor of work values of teachers in professional growth. Summarize the result of the study to propose suggestions.
This study used the survey primarily, and seconded by interviews, from "the public elementary school teacher condition questionnaire". Sample schools according to their areas and scales by the stratified random sampling way to pick 41 schools in Taipei City, 59 schools in Taipei County, altogether 100 schools, amount to 882 qualified elementary school teachers to implement the investigation. the number of retrieval copies 803, retrieval rate 91.04%; The effective samples included 773 persons, availability 96.26%.The obtained data were analyzed by SPSS for Windows 12.0 statistics package for descriptive statistics, the t test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, and multiple stepwise regression analysis . The conclusion was as follows:
1. In whole work values and all aspects, elementary school teachers in Taipei City and County reach to middle-positive performance. Then altruism value is the highest, and the achievement prestige value is the lowest one.
2. Due to the differences in sex, age, education, period of service, position, the area and the scale of a school, teachers in Taipei City and County have significant differences in work values.
3. In whole professional growth and all aspects, elementary school teachers in Taipei City and County reach to middle performance. the professionalism is the highest and the administration knowledge is the lowest one.
4. Due to the differences in sex, age, education, period of service, position, the area and the scale of a school, teachers in Taipei City and County have significant differences in professional growth.
5. The whole of the work values and professional growth and their aspects of elementary school teachers in Taipei City and County present positive correlation. The overall work values and professional growth of teachers present middle-positive correlation.
6. The work values of elementary school teachers in Taipei City and County have the high predictor for professional growth, especially the "altruism" is the main predictive variable.
Base on the conclusion as above, in view of the development of educational administration, schools, elementary teachers as well as the future research, this study proposes some substantial suggestions as reference for promoting the work values of teachers to enhance their professional growth.
