A multiple probe design across subjects of single-subject experimental design was used to evaluate the effects. The research subjects were three students in 4th and 5th grade with mild mental retardation in resource classes in one of Taipei County elementary schools. The learning platform is the interactive evaluation learning system designed by power-point process the experimental teaching. Every student took a set of CAI English courses for 3 weeks, 3 times per week, and 30 minutes per time. The effects of other observation data, as well as the social validity of the interview data were also analyzed. The results of this study are as follows, 1. The immediate effects of CAI on comprehension of English functional vocabulary learning for the mild mental retarded students in the elementary school were found in this study. 2. The maintaining effects of CAI on comprehension abilities of English functional vocabulary learning for the mild mental retarded students in the elementary school were found in this study. 3. The generalization effects on comprehension abilities of English functional vocabulary learning for the mild mental retarded students in the elementary school were found. 4. Students’ motivation and interests in learning English were enhanced through CAI. 5. Parents of student A and student C believed that students’ motivations and interests in learning English were encouraged through CAI, while parent of student B didn’t think so.
