Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣海洋大學 === 教育研究所 === 96 === Abstract Based on higher education reform in Taiwan, the numbers of universities have been highly expended. However, the numbers of overseas Chinese students for choosing Taiwanese universities have been reduced gradually. Hence, the aim of this research is to explore the reasons for making future school choice. Semi-structured interviews have been conducted in 4 Malaysian overseas Chinese students in Taiwan, based on content analysis of interview data and related literature review, the ‘the questionnaire of making school choice for independent high school students’ has been developed. Using stratified sampling, there were 450 Malaysia third year high school students involved in this research (the response rate is 93.75%). The results show the major three influential factors on school choice attitude aspects are (1) language requirement (2) high school academic performance (3) availability of offering a place and on school choice location are (1) personal ideal or interests (2) acknowledge of bachelor degree (3) environmental security. Compared with China, Japan, England, America, Singapore and Austria, it apparently shows that Taiwan can provide more university information, better environmental security, cheaper tuition fee, acceptable language environment, sufficient grant and part time job opportunities and higher rate of accepting applicants. The applications of this research can be shown in three aspects: Firstly, for understanding the needs of Malaysia students: it can provide more competitive career development. Secondly, for understanding Malaysia schools, it can provide more information for supporting students’ university choice. Thirdly, for policy-maker, the processes of making overseas Chinese higher education choosing decision should consider the international competition and cultural characteristics for enhancing quality of higher education.
