Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣海洋大學 === 海洋環境資訊學系 === 96 === This study uses wind stress derived from satellite scatterometer data to observe the variation of wind fields in the Equatorial Pacific Ocean. From the vector empirical orthogonal function (VEOF) analysis, the results indicate that the first VEOF shows the feature of planetary wind system and the second VEOF represents the seasonal change nearby land. We also removed the annual signal from the dataset and calculated the interannual VEOF. The first interannual VEOF represents the westerly winds burst in January 1998 over the western Pacific warm pool and the second interannual VEOF is El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) related mode. The spatial mode of the second interannual VEOF reflects the response of the tropical and extra-tropical winds to ENSO events. It changes obviously during June 1997 - April 1998.
