There are four influent concentrations of sodium acetate ( 25, 50, 100, and 300 mg COD/L) discharged to MFC. The anode and cathode area are 184 cm2, respectively, external resistance was 500 Ω, and hydraulic retention time 1- 1.3 days. Results show that to M-MFC, as electrode distances were 5.8, 10.2, 15.1, and 19.5 cm, the maximum achievable power density (PDmax) were 4, 3, 2.5, 2.5 mW/m2, respectively. To ML-MFC, as electrode distances were 9.2 and 13.2 cm, PDmax were 1.5 mW/m2. The above results indicated that to M-MFC, power density decreased with increasing electrode distance, but it remained unchanged when distance exceeded 15.1cm. To ML-MFC, the effect of distance was insignificant. In addition, the experimental result also shows that the internal resistance decreased with decreasing the distance. This study suggested that to improve power generation, the electrode distance should be decreased as much as possible. Key words:microbial fuel cell, Internal resistance, power density, electrode distance. Chi-Yuan Lee 李志源 2008 學位論文 ; thesis 182 zh-TW
