3D computer animation is one of current media used to convey messages. Different from traditional 2D computer animations, 3D animation makes animations more three-dimensional and has been favored by more and more animation creators. The completed animations boast very high quality effects and artistic value. After the first independent short film made entirely with 3D computer animation, Luxe Jr., by John Laster came out in 1986, the technology has been applied in making of movies and animations.
Literatures on Hollywood movies, escapism, visual language of 3D computer animation, and other relevant documents are collected and analyzed to understand the feasibility of 3D computer animation expression forms in establishing escapism meaning. It will serve as reference of future 3D computer animation creators. Arrangement of research and works are made with analysis results with researcher’s 3D computer animation works. With 3D computer animation works, escapism in Hollywood movies is applied in 3D computer animation creation.
3D computer animation is one of the animation expression forms. No matter how advanced technology is and how well computer animation is developed, artistic expression still relies on aesthetics quality of composers, story contents and the way stories are told. Eventually, “people” remains the main factor of success for an animation. 3D computer animation is the trend of animation development and Hollywood, and is worthy to be further studied and discussed.
