The Curative Factors of Group Dream Work for Adult's Grief Processing

碩士 === 國立臺灣師範大學 === 教育心理與輔導學系 === 96 === The purpose of the study was to explore the curative factors of group dream work for adults encountering grief. The two research questions were: (1) What were the curative factors of the dream work from the dreamer’s perspective? (2) What were the curative factors of the dream work from the members’ perspective? Nine adults with grief processing issues were interviewed individually after the group dream work using a semi-structured in-depth interview method. The interviewed data were transcribed and further analyzed employing phenomenological approach of qualitative method. The major findings included four aspects of curative factors of the group dream work：(1) Inner psychological factors, including “Recollection and Emotion Interweaves”, “Existential and spiritual inquiring”, “Self-empowerment”, “Processing related to the deceased”, “Perceives self-relationship”, “Family support”, and “Modeling and learning”; (2)Interaction between the dreamer and the members, including “Facilitating self-awareness”, “Projection as revealing emotion”, “Altruism”, “Experiencing selfless-care”, “Free disclosure”; (3) Group climate, including “Instillation of hope”, “Universality contains differences”, “Belongingness through support and acceptance”, “Nurturing relationship”, “Imparting dream work information”; and (4) The influence between group experience and real life, including “Transformation of meaningful relationship”, “Extension of the support group”, “Promoting individual counseling”, and “Experienced grief in-depth catharsis”. The limitations and future directions for research and practice were also discussed.
