Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 台灣文化研究所碩士班 === 96 === Puzih, which was located by the Niu Zhou River, was once in the name of Hoosukang. Earlier in the years of Ming Yongli Dynasty, there had been constant migrations getting into this place because of its geographic position. People who ever lived on agriculture as major economic activity also acclimatized themeselves to the weather of rainy summer, dryer winter. As a result, there were many water conservancy facilities built to apply to its needs. Settlements were firstly set up in the place where water was easily accessible. With the growing population, they as well gradually radiated from the inner to the outer. By the time of medium-term of Qianlong Dynasty, the transportation was quite convenient then, even the port''s silted up, Puzih had became the center of goods of nearby settlements and started to prosper with streets and markets.
Residents in Puzih mostly centered in the old blocks. By the way, the distribution of population is not in average. Recently, the residents have slowly moved to the suburbs. In the composition of population, the Puzih have come to a stablizing state from being high birth and death rate to low birth and death rate nowadays. At the meantime, thanks to the steady growth of the young, the rate for giving support to the elder is relatively low. In addition, the quality of the population is enhanced with getting educated; in the long term, the constitution of population has truly affected people''s economic activities by the decreasing acts of agriculture. In the opposite, industry and commerce increases in the percentage of economic activity.
Most importantly, the religious belief not only plays a role in social integration, but also contacts with people from different consanguinity and places. The Puzih believe in Wangyeh. The local village temple organization is almost equal to the village organization. Through many temple festivals, pilgrims, they promote the sense of belonging among residents and increase the friendship among the inhabitants of different regions.
The study explores the social transformation of Puzih from the following aspects: the background of the formation of settlements, the distribution and constitution of population, the changes of the educational level and economic activities. And to know more about it''s culture and uniqueness from the development of people''s religious belief.
