The answers will provide useful references to improve traffic safety education. The study is conducted by a comprehensive literature review and questionnaire survey. First, the literature review provides a basic understanding of the traffic safety education in Taiwan as well as in foreign countries. Based on the literature review, a questionnaire survey entitled: “status of traffic safety education in elementary schools and possible improvements” was developed and mailed to teachers in 100 elementary schools in Kaohsiung County and 50 elementary schools in Kaohsiung City. Each school received three copies of questionnaire for teachers and one copy of questionnaire for schools. One teacher in each primary, junior, and senior grade was asked to answer the questionnaire for teachers; the questionnaires for schools were filled out by either directors of student affairs or heads of disciplinary subsections. A statistical analysis of the data was performed using SPSS for Windows 12.0. The results of the statistical analysis show that the main difficulties that the schools have encountered are: financial problems, teachers’ ignorance of the importance of the traffic safety education, and uncooperative parents. As for teachers, their responses show that time constraint and the lack of teaching materials post difficulties for them in conducting such a program. Based on the results, specific suggestions are given to deal with the problems. Mei-Chun Yin 尹玫君 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 121 zh-TW
