Summary: | 博士 === 國立清華大學 === 工業工程與工程管理學系 === 96 === In the field of garment manufacturing, its plan and control of production and inventory are very complicated. Thus, establishing standard sizing systems is necessary and important for manufacturers. Because the establishment of the standard sizing systems requires the anthropometric data as reference, the construction of an anthropometric database for Taiwanese army soldiers is the first step.
A total of 265 static anthropometric variables including both standing and sitting postures were measured from 610 male soldiers. Three kinds of equipment were used for static measurements, i.e. a 3-D (three-dimensional) coordinate measurement probe, a digital caliper and a digital tape measure. The anthropometric database for Taiwanese army is essential for enhancing safety and healthy in work environment, weapon design, personal equipment design and garment sizing system development.
Data mining has been extensively used in many fields, but limited research has been conducted in establishing sizing systems. This study aims to present the valuable anthropometric data of Taiwanese soldiers and to establish systems for determining the sizes of garments for army soldiers using a data mining technique. The new developed sizing systems can correctly predict the requirements for different sizes of uniforms, and generate a realistic production planning. Unnecessary inventory costs due to the sizing mismatches between the number of soldiers and the produced garments can be minimized.
