The subjects were 550 principals in public elementary schools in central Taiwan (Taichung county, Taichung city, Changhua county, and Nantou county). The main conclusions of research are as follows: 1. The elementary school principals in central Taiwan perceive that the degree of emotional intelligence ability is above middle-high level. 2. The female elementary school principals in central Taiwan perceive the degree of emotional intelligence ability more important than male principals. 3. The elementary school principals in Taichung county perceive the degree of emotional intelligence ability the most important in central elementary schools. 4. The elementary school principals of over 25 classes in central Taiwan think the degree of emotional intelligence ability more important. 5. There is no significant difference among working years as principal, highest education diploma, and working area about the degree of importance of emotional intelligence ability that principals in central Taiwan think. Therefore, there is no difference among the above variables about the perception of important degree of emotional intelligence ability. 6. The elementary school principals in central Taiwan think that there are differences between the important degree and practical application of emotional intelligent ability. According to the above conclusions, some suggestions are given to the educational administrative organs, elementary school principals separately, and some references are made for the future relevant research subjects, tools and methods.
