The statistical analysis of baseball performance can be applied to not only professional players but also college players before the draft. In Taiwan, the analysis of college baseball data received very little attention. Recently, colleges play more games in a season, providing more meaningful statistics for analysis. The aim of this study was to analyze the development of the performance data in Taiwanese college players. The results were compared to American college players. Data from Baseball Spring Tournament in Taiwan during 2003-2007 and regular season games in the 6 major conferences (BIG 10、BIG 12、BIG EAST、Pacific 10、Southeastern Conference, and Atlantic Coast Conference) in NCAA Division I was used in this study. The correlations of performance between 2 consecutive years were used to find the category that can truly reflect the ability of players. The difference in the development of college players between Taiwan and the US was compared. The results of this study indicated that most Taiwanese college baseball players showed no significant correlation between the performance in 2 consecutive years, made no significant progress in their statistics. On the other hand, the American players showed significant correlations in the performance in 2 consecutive years, and made significant progress. Therefore, this study suggests that the training and game system for Taiwan college baseball players may need to be reconsidered and improved. Future studies may collect data from more years and analyze players with different characteristics or positions. Chang Chen-Kang 張振崗 學位論文 ; thesis 75 zh-TW
