Sixty Grade 5 elementary students (N=60) were used as subjects in this study. Twenty-seven subjects (N=27) receiving the Creative problem solving lessons were categorized into experimental group with thirty-three subjects (N=33) receiving direct instruction as control group. Both groups met twice a week for 40 minutes per session with a duration of 10 weeks. Problem solving ability in basketball tests were administered before and after the intervention. The SPSS for Windows 12.0 version was utilized to analyze all the data by repeated measure design and independent-sampling t-test. The level of significance for acceptance or rejection for this study was set at the .05 level. Results indicated that: 1. there were significant improvements of the experimental group on the abilities of problem preventing and solving in basketball but with no significant improvements on the abilities of interpretation, direct prediction, reverse prediction, decision making and assessment; 2. there were no significant improvements of the control group on the abilities of interpretation, direct prediction, reverse prediction, decision making, prevention, assessment and problem solving in basketball; 3. there was significant difference on the problem solving ability in basketball between the experimental group and the control group in the post-test and; 4. the experimental group had significant improvement on the abilities of direct prediction, decision making, prevention and problem solving in basketball when comparing with the control group but with no significant differences on the abilities of interpretation, reverse prediction and assessment.
