Summary:碩士 === 國立體育大學 === 體育研究所 === 96 === Sports are secularized, and religion is sacred. They are both important cultural practice in human society. Through historical social perspectives, this study investigates the relation between sports and religion. Both elements can be found in many physical cultural activities, and they are also important topics discussed in sport field, and vital cultural heritage in society. Through philosophical perspective, we can spot their similar contents and commonness. Sports and religion often play similar roles in society, and have similar cultural and social construct in the groups involved. There are also same or similar thoughts in the central faith system of sports and religion. However, sports is not same as religion, but contains the religious. Faith is their common relation resulting from the effect between sport worlds and religious field. As a faith for people, it is appropriate to term ‘Sport faith’ including the sport practice and the meanings and values of its spirit side. This study applies the inductive method to present sports and religion in the history and society, to explain the faith relation between people participate in sports and religious activities, and finally, to state the content and value of sports faith, the core concept of this study. There are three research results as follows: 1. Sports are cultural activities with subjectivity. 2. Faith is the interdependent relation among people, religions and sports. 3.'Sport faith’ includes two aspects of ‘exercise’ and ‘soul’, and its value has impression in three kinds of aspects of ‘body’, ’intelligence’ and ' spirit '.
