It was introduced to Taiwan through authoritarian regime since 1967.This for forty years, there are very few relevant studies of the Taiwanese taekwondo through the historical sociological perspectives. In particular, sport played a significant role during the Chinese authoritarian regime period. Taekwondo is not only a sport, but also as a cultural tool of the China universal ideological state apparatuses.Several Western scholars have made great contributions on the study of sport and ideology. However, there are still rare in Taiwan. A number of some will be discussed in this thesis: How did Taekwondo introduce into Taiwan? How was the relationship between sport and Taiwanese culture ideology? How was the development of Taekwondo during Chinese authoritarian regime period? How did Taekwondo become an important sport in the Taiwanese society? In order to answer those questions, this paper applies the methodology of historical sociology to examine the development of Taekwondo through the relevant literatures, articles, historical events, pictures and theories. In sum, Taekwondo was not only a war technique; it was also a tool of political ideology under KMT’s dominionation. Afterward political reforming, Capitalism and democratized process have also influenced development of Taekwondo in Taiwan. However the army fights technique reforming athletics movement, still holds the strong ideology.
