Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立台北護理學院 === 中西醫結合護理研究所 === 96 === The purposes of this study are first to explore whether insomnia among the elderly patients is related to certain indicators of metabolism, and then to evaluate the effectiveness of Far-infrared Ray to the insomnia of the elderly. This research design was Quasi- experimental. A total of 42 elderly people who were divided into experimental and control groups with 21 participants, respectively were obtained from institutions using convenience sampling. The experimental groups were provided with the intervention care of Far-infrared Ray for 15 minutes per time and twice a week for 2 months. The outcomes of this study were evaluated by the level of serotonin and superoxide dismutase, and were measured by the instrument of sleep quality. Descriptive, Pearson correlation, t-test, Chi-square were used to analyze data. Results showed that there are significant differences between control and experimental groups on the level of serotonin (p<.001) and quality of sleep (p<.001), those of which indicate that the intervention of Far-infrared Ray is effective to the improvement of insomnia among the elderly. Generally, the results of this study provide references for clinical care of the elderly with insomnia. True experiments were suggested for the future studies to understand the possibilities and appropriateness of this intervention when it is applied to care of other diseases.
