碩士 === 國立台北護理學院 === 護理研究所 === 96 === The purpose of this study was to understand the sexuality and its related factors of primiparous women and their partners during the postpartum period. A prospective cross-sectional design was used and all subjects were collected from a regional hospital in Taipei. The 129 subjects (70 were primiparous women and 59 were their partners) in this study were selected by purposive sampling and they fulfill the questionnaires during the third to fourth month postpartum. The questionnaire was designed in two parts, including demographic data and the Postpartum Sexuality Evaluation Scale. Subjects self-completed the distributed questionnaire. The findings of this study were as follows: (1) 108 of 129 subjects reported that they had resumed sexual intercourse and the mean time for resuming sexual intercourse was 56.51±19.33 days postpartum. (2) This study explored the factors contributed to decline in sexual intercourse for new parents, including experience fatigued and fears to suffer perineal pain of the women, and suffered busy and nervous life of the men. (3) Comparing the score of sexuality status between the primiparous women and their partners, it could be found that the partners got the higher score than the primiparous women. The findings of this study could provide the variance in sexual activity during the postpartum period in Taiwan and that there is a need for nurse staff to be open discuss of sexual activity with the women and their partners during the postpartum period.
