The “indirect approach” and “peaceful rise” seem to be two irrelevant parallel lines but actually it links tightly to each other. For understanding the issues related to Chinese Communism, a correct approach must be ensured. The formation of every discourse or strategy is always decided by the chosen approach, which is a kind of spirit, a model, or even a lighthouse. An unclear approach may result a wrong policy, however, it could also cause a downfall of a country. The approach definitely involves in the global strategy of peaceful rise in China. This research explored what kind of approach China has used to make it become one of the great powers in the world and what has caused a global butterfly effect. Because of their approach, they put Taiwan into a difficult situation. This indirect approach China applied was proposed by the English military historian B.H. Liddel Hart in 1929. My study is greatly inspired by his ideal.
The term “peaceful rise” was originated from Mr. Zheng Bijian, the Vice President of the Central Party School in his speech “China’s peaceful rise” during the Boao Forum of Asia in 2003. It was then reiterated by PRC premier Wen Jiabao in his speech in Harvard University. It then has become an important and major issue in the international study; different perspectives were discussed by scholars from various fields and numerous researching papers can be found all over the world. The related literatures, periodicals and documents all inspired me and helped me study a new theme from the theoretical foundation.
