Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 輔導與諮商研究所 === 96 === The main purpose of this study was to investigate the life experience of Dr. Dogs volunteers. Three objectives were to know the bond between Dr. Dogs volunteers and Dr. Dogs, the volunteers’ motives in participation in Dr. Dogs’ training, the difficulties faced by individuals and the adjustments to be made during the process. It evolved round Dr. Dogs personal, family and work lives.
The primary method used was purposive sampling. A total of two volunteers, aged above 20, recommended by the Formosa Animal-Assisted Activity and Therapy Association(FAAATA), awarded the contract under the license of Dr. Dogs, continued to be active participation in Dr. Dogs’ service and relevant propaganda activities for more than two years, were interviewed.
The technique used was narrative inquiry and holistic-content analysis. Through the analysis of the researcher’s interpretation, the results were as follows:
The core themes related to the bond between Dr. Dogs’ Volunteers and Dr. Dogs were “significantly emotional attached”, ” longing to be close to nature”, and" the burden of responsibility”. The core theme related to Dr. Dogs Volunteers’ motive for participation in Dr. Dogs’ training was "to improve the dogs’ disturbed behaviors". The core themes related to individual facing difficulties were ”working hard beyond their capability”, and “all for the dogs ”, Dr. Dogs Volunteers learned “reconstruct the frame of seeing life “, and “persist in their achievement” in adjustment process.
The personal significances of Dr. Dogs for Dr. Dogs Volunteers were to ”expand life experience” and ”animals as teachers”, the family significances of Dr. Dogs for Dr. Dogs Volunteers were”value nurture consensus”, and ”communicating new nurture concept”, The work significances of Dr. Dogs for Dr. Dogs Volunteers were to "increase interpersonal support" and "launch a new job opportunities."
At last, according to research conclusions, some comments were offered for the future research and Dr. Dogs Volunteers.
