The questionnaire was adopted and 756 subjects came from 24 classes of 12 elementary schools located in Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Tainan County, Kaohsiung City, Kaohsiung County and Pingtung County. The subjects were 378 fifth- grade and 378 sixth-grade including 380 boys and 376 girls. The data were collected by Parenting Style Scale, Inventories of Children Personality Traits and Questionnaire of Elementary School Children’s Prosocial Behavior. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s Product-Moment correlation, and multiple regression were used to analyze the data. The main fingings are summarized as follows: 1. High graders in elementary school perceived more“authoritative” parenting style, and less “indulgent” parenting style. 2. High graders in elementary school showed more “extraversion”, and less “neuroticism” in personality traits aspect. 3. The prosocial behavior of high graders in elementary school were at the upper middle level. 4. Mothers' parenting style of high graders in elementary school related to students’ gender and family type. 5. Fathers' parenting style of the high graders in elementary school related to students’ birth order. 6. There were significant differences in part of the personality traits based on grades, genders, birth order and family types. 7. There were significant differences in prosocial behavior of high graders in elementary school based on genders and family types. 8. High graders in elementary school whose parents adopted the parenting style of “authoritative” showed more “agreeableness”, “conscientiousness”, “extraversion”, “openness” than “indulgent”, “ authoritarian”, and “neglecting” parenting style. 9. High graders in elementary school whose parents adopted the parenting style of “authoritative” showed more prosocial behavior. 10. The personality of agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, openness of high graders in elementary school had significant positive correlation with their prosocial behavior. 11. Prosocial behavior could be predicted from the personality of agreeableness, conscientiousness, and extraversion of high graders in elementary school.
