Abstract
The age group of using cell phones is going down to teenagers. It has been forming a new trend of using mobile phones among teenagers. In terms of a survey conducted by Kuang Chuan Culture and Education Foundation in April, 2005, the rate of possessing mobile phones of teenagers is up to 63.12% and has been rising up increasingly. Whereas, generalizing from the related records and documents, this study reveals the consequent diversities of cell phone using, parenting styles as well as parent-child conflicts. By the means of questionnaires, pretests, item analysis, factor analysis and the test of reliability and validity, the survey in this study was researched and conducted in junior high schools in Taiwan. With the stratified sampling, Kaohsiung City was divided into 7 areas. By the principle of proportionality on total number of students in each area and the number of Pupils in grades, the samples were randomly selected out, totally 972 students from 8 schools as the subjects were examined and tested . There were 917 valid questionnaires retrieved, with 94.8 response rate. Through the software, SPSS for Windows 12.0, the statistic tests were processed and examined with the frequency, t-test, chi-square test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe', and Pearson's product-moment correlation.
Main conclusions as the followings:
1.The higher the students' grade; the more the years of using cell phones. It is more obvious in girls than in boys. And their phone bills are almost paid by parents.
2.The way of authoritarian is always adopted by fathers in disciplining their children; authoritative by mothers.
3.The performance of academic achievement of students is the best as the authoritative parenting style was adopted; the worst the neglect parenting style.
4.Parents' conflicts due to consuming habits can be the worst.
5.The causes of parent-child conflicts of junior high students are always moderate, not so serious.
6.On the aspect of parent-child conflicts, the perception of junior high male students is higher than that of female students; students in grade 3 higher than those in grade 1 and those in the single parent family obviously higher than in double-parent one.
7.Parent-child conflicts owing to using mobile phones can happen less as the authoritative style was conducted on parents' discipline.
8.As to the consequence of parent-child conflicts, the way of authoritarian can be obviously much higher than those of authoritative, indulgent as well as neglect.
9.The more parent-child conflicts, the more the cell phone expenses, years and frequency of using mobile phones will be.
10.The more their parents' requirements and responses, the more conflicts the students using cell phones will have with their parents.
Concluding all the researches found, this study provides people, such as junior high students, parents, school consulting, mobile-phone providers, and afterward researchers with some relevant and related suggestions.
