What, how, and why filth languages are used among students should be of the main concern. In order to do so, semi-structural interview and participant observation together with document analysis are employed to collect research data. In doing so, an amount of three teachers and 25 students in BAT Junior High School (assumed name) in the southern Taiwan are interviewed. Research data are analyzed and interpreted based on a certain perspective of cultural studies. The main findings of this study are addressed as follows: 1. The filth language is functional for students, including cursing, being an exit of emotions, kidding, presenting masculinity, resisting the authority with injustice and being identity of peer groups. 2. Teachers understand that students use filth language for fun, but they forbid students talking to teachers with filth language. Therefore, when filth language shows up in quarrels between teacher and student, teachers will blame the student for the rudeness while students will see the cursing as the symbol of resistance. 3. The different filth language styles of students are the outcome of the articulation of family or community cultures, mainstream ideologies of school and the interaction of classmates. Finally, the limitations of this research and suggestions for future studies are proposed. 莊勝義 學位論文 ; thesis 139 zh-TW
