The purpose of this research is to put Kaohsiung harbor city in the discussion grain of the global waterfront reconstruction, and to distinguish its influence and property. First, induce the time-space process. Second, think configure of the waterfront space in Taiwan, Third, investigate the environment and current conditions of waterfront space in Kaohsiung city. Finally, elaborate the change of ideology that waterfront space produces and the transformation of man-land relationship. In 1980s, the water-accessible concept was from Japan and became the central idea of the waterfront reconstruction in Taiwan. And it was the result of the construction of Water-accessible Park of Dongshan River in Yi-Lan County. Then the movement of the Global Waterfront Reconstruction began from Water-accessible Park of Dongshan River in Taiwan, and also been duplicated in Kaohsiung City. The research object was focused the waterfront space in Kaohsiung City, including coast, port, and riverfront. The reconstruction of waterfront space in Kaohsiung City displays some differences between man-land relationships by various space characteristics. Waterfront space can connect because of the construction of the landscape, the use of unused space, bicycle lanes, and ferries. However, for the water-accessible concept, it lacks natural waters. Compared with Dongshan River, the waterfront reconstruction in Kaohsiung City shows diverse views. Each waterfront space is developed according to its characteristics and environmental differences. But when related planners construct and use the waterfront space, they are influenced by the construction of waterfront of Dongshan River. The waterfront space in Kaohsiung City is more various and more complicated because it is beside the metropolis.
