Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄第一科技大學 === 運籌管理所 === 96 === Yield Management is practiced in airline, hotel and restaurant industries for years and also increased their total revenue. According to the imperishable of transportation industry, yield management in railway industry is also adoptable. In order to increase the travel demand and revenue of Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR), this study will apply the concepts of yield management to simulate what can improve profits and service quality if yield management strategies are well collocated.
Due to the uncertainty of travel demand and the choice behaviors of passengers, this study uses simulation software to develop a simply choice model on THSR passenger purchasing behaviors. This model includes the shifting behavior of passengers while they are not able to get the tickets at their first choice. According to what can improve the situation of THSR now and the future, we consider five scenarios as follows.(1)When demand changes, the impact on the ratio of passengers who pre-purchase the tickets;(2)seat allocation problem under the change of demand;(3)to evaluate the cram problem of non-reserved seats car and the benefits while releasing another car for non-reserved passengers;(4)the benefits of using price discrimination strategy;(5)the proper time to assign the trains with all reserved seats.
The result of this study shows that the larger the ratio of passengers who pre-purchase the tickets, the greater the revenue will be obtained. Furthermore, with the proper combination of the seat allocation and price discrimination, the cram problem can be improved and the revenue can be increased.
