Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄第一科技大學 === 應用德語所 === 96 === Politicians express their own opinion in public, which is important for the democratic development of a country. They can gain the acceptance of the people by public speeches; on the other side, an inappropriate speech can prematurely destroy a political career. Therefore the influence and effect of a public speech must not be underestimated. And the rhetoric often decides a speech. With the methods of social studies „documentary analysis” is used in this work. All speeches, which Merkel has held in public, are available in text form on her official website. These text forms are "the running record" and "primary documents". For this study twelve speeches were chosen: six speeches regarding domestic affairs; and other six speeches regarding foreign or oversee affairs. This study has the following goal: by analyzing and characterizing the speeches, researchers should receive a better insight in Angela Merkel. This work is divided in six main parts. In the first part the motivation, objectives, methods and structure of this work are discussed. In the second part three lecture functions, the structure of a lecture and the rhetoric figures of speeches are discussed. For every rhetoric figure an example from Merkels speeches is presented. In the third, fourth and fifth part three speech characteristics of Chancellor Merkel are discussed, namely speech goal aspects, speech form aspects and speech content aspects. In the sixth part a conclusion will be conducted.
