The texts and illustrations in various textbooks were analyzed and the results will be provided as the reference for the curriculums arrangement, textbook compilation and the selection of teaching materials in the future. The results show as follows: 1. The appearance of the roles of parents and children: the role of father appears more frequently in texts while the role of mother appears more in the illustrations; the role of sons appears more frequently than daughters in both texts and illustrations. 2. In the aspect of main categories, the affective role in the parent-child relationship is most concerned; as to sub categories, “being children’s company” and “being parents’ company” got the highest frequency of appearance. The elementary textbooks of Chinese emphasize the interaction between parents and children with abundant and diversiform contents and could be nice examples for student’s learning. 3. The role of fathers appears more frequently in the aspects of “profession and livelihood”, “sharing experience”, “facilitating learning” and “leading activity” while mothers appear more in “daily caring”, “housework”, “intimate expression” and “making the rules”. The images of fathers are tended towards being professional, competent, and knowledgeable while the images of mothers emphasize on tender, housekeeping and diligence. The stereotype image of “man for the field; woman for the hearth” still exists. 4. The role of son appears more in the aspects of “obeying parents’ instructions” and “active learning” while the role of daughters appears in “partaking in housework” and “expressing demand”. Sons represent being active and studious while daughters clever, diligent and acting like spoiled kids. 5. Generally speaking, both the roles of parents and children are not humorous enough. Parents seldom practice what they preach. Children appear less in “taking care of family or themselves” and “assist parents actively” and it means they are less willing to devote for their families. 碩士 === 國立花蓮教育大學 === 國民教育研究所 === 96 === Abstract
The purpose of this study is aimed to discuss the presentation and meaning of parent-child relationship in the elementary Chinese textbooks of 9-year integrated curriculum. The texts and illustrations in various textbooks were analyzed and the results will be provided as the reference for the curriculums arrangement, textbook compilation and the selection of teaching materials in the future. The results show as follows:
