This study was designed to understand the current situation of the athletic teams coach’s professional expertise on the prevention and treatment of sports injuries, and to explore the diversity influenced by the variables of different coaching background (such as gender, age, level of education, major, position, guide project , coaching seniority, whether injured or not and so on). The research adopted a questionnaire survey on those coaches who participated in 16 items of track and field competitions of "2007 Month of Hui Lan Physical Education in Hualien County" by utilizing the “Self-evaluation form of Athletic Teams Coach’s Professional Competence in Elementary School of Hualien County” edited by the researcher. There are 306 valid questionnaires out of 330 in total with a 92.7% recovery rate. The statistical analysis was conducted by SPSS 13.0 version for Windows. The significant level of α in the test accounts . 05. Through the data processing and analytical discussion, the result was found as following:
First, the athletic team coaches in elementary school of Hualien County perform well in general with an average of 4.17 in overall; while the professional expertise on the treatment are better than that on the prevention in terms of sports injuries.
Second, in the elementary school of Hualien County, those athletic coaches who are male, 31 to 40 years old, with higher level of education majoring in PE related fields, kickboxing, 11to 15 years and 16 to20 years of coaching seniority, without sports injured experience, would possess better professional expertise on the prevention of sports injuries.
Third, in the elementary school of Hualien County, those athletic coaches who are 31 to 40 /41 to 50 years old with higher level of education, 11 to15 years and 16 to 20 years of coaching seniority, without sports injured experience, would possess better professional expertise on the treatment of sports injuries.
